Schlüter-RENO-TK  Transition profile for floor coverings of different heights

Schlüter-RENO-TK is a profile for creating a stepless transition between floor coverings of different heights, for example for the transition from tiles to vinyl, PVC, linoleum or carpet. The visible surface area of this profile is sloped, preventing trip hazards by creating a smooth transition between coverings of different heights.

The adjoining lower covering (such as carpet or resilient flooring) can be inserted into the 6 mm high profile chamber to conceal the edges and protect them.

General product information

What this product does

Schlüter-RENO-TK is a special profile for the stepless transition of floor coverings with different heights, especially when the tiled surface is higher than the adjacent covering, e.g. the transition between tile and carpet. The visible surface area of RENO-TK is sloped, preventing trip edges between coverings of different heights. The 6 mm profile chamber hides and protects the cut edge of lower adjoining surface coverings (e.g. carpet, vinyl flooring).

How to install this product

  1. Select Schlüter-RENO-TK according to the tile thickness.
  2. Apply tile adhesive to the area where the tile covering will end, using a notched trowel.
  3. Press the trapezoid-perforated anchoring leg of the profile firmly into the adhesive and align it.
  4. Place additional adhesive over the trapezoid perforated anchoring leg to ensure full coverage.
  5. Firmly press the adjoining tiles into place and align them in such a way that the upper profile edge is flush with the tile (the profile should not protrude over the surface of the covering; preferably, it should be approx. 1 mm below the top level of the covering). The tiles must be fully embedded in the area of the profile.
  6. A joint of approx. 2 mm should be left between the tile and the profile.
  7. Completely fill the space between the tile and the profile with grout.

What this product is made from

Schlüter-RENO-TK is available in the following materials:

  • E = stainless steel V2A, material no. 1.4301 = AISI 304
  • EB = brushed stainless steel
  • A = aluminium
  • M = brass
  • AE = anodised aluminium

Material properties and areas of application

In special cases, the suitability of a profile type must be verified based on the anticipated chemical, mechanical and/or other stresses.

Schlüter-RENO-ETK /-EBTK is made of rollformed V2A stainless steel (material no. 1.4301). Stainless steel is particularly well suited for applications that, in addition to heavy mechanical stresses, require resistance to chemicals such acidic or alkaline media and detergents. Even stainless steel is not resistant to all chemical stresses, and may be affected by hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid or certain chloride and brine concentrations. In certain cases, this also applies to seawater pools. Special anticipated stresses should therefore be verified in advance.

Schlüter-RENO-MTK are profiles made of brass. Minor manufacturing flaws are unavoidable on their untreated surfaces. Brass is resistant to virtually all chemicals used in conjunction with tile coverings. Brass that is exposed to air will oxidise, resulting in a natural patina. If exposed to moisture or aggressive substances, heavy oxidation and spotting may occur.

Schlüter-RENO-ATK are profiles made of aluminium. Minor manufacturing flaws are also unavoidable on their untreated surfaces. The suitability of the profiles should be reviewed based on the anticipated chemical stresses. Aluminium is sensitive to alkaline media. Cementitious materials, in conjunction with moisture, become alkaline, which may result in corrosion depending on the concentration and length of exposure (aluminium hydroxide formation). Adhesive or grout residue must therefore be removed immediately from visible surfaces. Solidly embed the profile in the setting material to prevent alkaline water from accumulating in small cavities.

Schlüter-RENO-AETK, made of anodised aluminium, has an anodised surface finish that will not change under normal circumstances. The finish may be damaged by aggressive substances or abrasive stresses. Adhesive and grout can scratch the surface of the profile; therefore, any residue must be removed immediately. Otherwise, the description regarding aluminium applies.

How to look after this product

Schlüter-RENO-TK requires no special maintenance or care. Oxidation films on brass or aluminium may be removed with a common polishing agent; however, they do reoccur. Damaged anodised surfaces can be restored with paint.

Stainless steel surfaces exposed to the environment or aggressive substances should be cleaned periodically, using a mild household cleaner.

Regular cleaning maintains the neat appearance of stainless steel and reduces the risk of corrosion. All cleaning agents must be free of hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid.

Avoid contact with other metals, such as regular steel, to prevent corrosion. This also includes installation tools such as trowels or steel wool, e.g. for the removal of mortar residue. We recommend the use of the stainless steel cleaning polish Schlüter-CLEAN-CP.
