Berkshire Showroom Protected With Schlüter-Systems

Reed Harris's stylish 450 m² tile showroom at Reading in Berkshire, is protected with a combination of profiles and matting systems from Schlüter-Systems Ltd.

The showroom, which is Reed Harris's first outside London, displays contemporary tiles and mosaics along with more traditional ceramic and natural stone products. Its main floor comprises Lea Stonehenge graphite 600 x 600 tiles, along with a variety of tiles in individual room sets.

The 300 m² of floor tiling in the showroom is protected with Schlüter-DITRA, which uncouples the tiles from the substrate, neutralising tensions. In addition, separate tile fields were formed using aluminium Schlüter-DILEX movement joint profiles which compensate for movement in the assembly. Without movement joints, shear stress builds up between the tile and the screed, causing debonding, bulging and cracking. Therefore they are an essential part of any tiling installation and should be incorporated at the design stage, as they were during the design of Reed Harris's showroom.

Stepless transitions between the main floor and the tiles in individual room sets which are at a different height, were created with Schlüter-RENO-RAMP. Where tiles meet a neighbouring surface at the same height, such as carpet, Schlüter-SCHIENE was used to protect the edge of the tile.

In addition, the front edges of the Lea Stonehenge stair tiles are protected by the stainless steel Schlüter-TREP stair nosing profile.

Reed Harris proprietor James Reed says they tailor customer advice about essential tiling protection depending on each customer's individual application, and chose Schlüter protection for their own showroom because: "We have worked with Schlüter-Systems Ltd for many years and know the product ranges and the quality of the products. We sell a lot of Schluter and wanted the best to protect our own tiling installations in the new showroom."
