Balconies And Terraces:
Systems for new construction and renovation
Iserlohn / Bologna. The system solutions of Schlüter-Systems for the installation of tiles and slabs in outdoor areas took up a large section of the company's tradeshow exhibit. The company was presenting solutions for new construction, but also for fast and easy renovation projects.

The comprehensive product assortment of Schlüter-Systems allows professional tile installers to offer complete balcony structures from one source. Schlüter offers a complete program of matching components for everything from waterproofing to wall joints and from edge profiles to drainage systems.

In Bologna, Schlüter-Systems exhibited both construction types that are structured over bituminous sealant layers and a fast and uncomplicated variation, in which the tiles are installed on top of a waterproofing and uncoupling mat that immediately tops the sloped screed.

Due to weather influences in conjunction with installation errors from the past, a large number of tile installations in outdoor areas require renovation. Models on display at the Schlüter booth gave a good illustration of "tile over tile" renovations done with the crack-bridging uncoupling mat Schlüter-DITRA on top of old coverings. According to the manufacturer, this saves time and eliminates the problem of disposing of the old tiles - both points every homeowner and builder is happy to hear about.

The renovation of balconies and roof terraces with the waterproofing membrane Schlüter- DITRA has been successful in countless large-scale projects at home and abroad.

The cross section of the balcony shows how the individual components of the balcony system engage with one another. The DITRA mat provides a sealed, uncoupled structure while the BARA profiles protect the edge and also support the BARIN gutter system.
